Fun name, i like the Blues and i like Software Development.
I started out as an Electronic Tech. Moved into Electrical Engineering of Commercial Electric Heating units, and Electrical Panels. Then Electrical Hot Water and High Pressure Steam Boilers. This was all using lots of math on Slide Rules! When I noticed it took an entire day to design a single Boiler, I persuaded them to let me try to write a program to do it on the mainframe that they were only using for Inventory control (this was in the mid 70's). They didn't think it was possible, but I did it and we could now do a complete design with shop specs in less than an hour.
I decided computers was the thing to do. So I changed jobs to a startup HMO as a software analyst/developer on a mainframe, in 1986. We were just a small group, I was one of 4 initial programmers. The company grew from just a few thousand enrollee's to millions in the next 14 years. Then the company was sold by management.
I went back to college and learned Oracle, SQL, and PC software development. Got a job at a new company that had a new idea on how Airline Reservations should be done. Low Cost Airlines and Ticketless reservations. This company also grew much larger over the next 14 years until we had over 50 low cost airlines using our software..
Then I retired. But I can't stop coding.
